Balenciaga, in its recent adverts using children, drew the disturbed attention of right-thinking persons and parents all over the world when it aired children holding teddies clothed in bondage wears.

The Spanish fashion brand which was established in the Basque Country in Spain before relocating to France and opening a boutique store in Paris in 1937 as a result of the Spanish Civil War, brought to fore the fears of parents all over the world that there is a move by deranged world leaders to destroy the family unit and expose children to gross exploitation in all facets of life.

This is coming on the heels of the very recent display by Disney where children were made to hold placards bearing the disturbing aggregated message of 'We You Love Satan' as against the alleged 'We Love You Santa' they wanted to display. If it was 'Ten' and 'Net' in play, we would understand, but considering that the fabric of morality has greatly shifted towards the dark side lately, this leaves a very sour taste in our mouths.

Now, while Balenciaga which was was acquired by multinational French company Kering in 2001 – who own Yves Saint Laurent, Gucci and Alexander McQueen among others – and was pegged as the company’s fastest growing brand in 2018, is facing a backlash, the need to uphold our morality and decorum has never been more needed.

Kim Kardashian, a brand ambassador of the company received backlash for staying mute, but came out recently to say, "shaken by the disturbing images" and "any attempts to normalize child abuse of any kind should have no place in our society — period."

Balenciaga, pushed by the backlash to tender an apology, did that to its 14 million Instagram followers. According to the Company, "Should not have been featured with children. It said it had removed the items from sale and deleted the images from all web platforms."

Photographer Gabriele Galimberti - who shot the Objects campaign featuring the plush bear bags - also released a statement, saying, "the photos were supposed to mimic his Toy Stories series - photos of children around the world posing with their favourite things." He told followers he had no control over the models or products used in the Balenciaga photos, and pointed out that they were not explicit.

Parents and right-thinking persons all over the world, more than ever, must speak in one voice against these acts of immorality and decadence becoming the norm.
