Prophet Isa El-Buba, the President of EL-Buba Outreach Ministries, Int., with headquarters in Jos, Plateau State, Nigeria, in sharp contrast to the sit-on-the-fence kind of support by other christian religious leaders, has boldly declared his support for Peter Obi, the Labour Party Candidate for the February 2023 presidential election.

This is coming on the backdrop of the APC's decision to go against the usual norm of political parties protecting all ethnicities, all religions and Nigerians at large, when APC and Ahmed Bola Tinubu, presidential flagbearer of the party, and a Muslim, opted for Kashim Shettima, a Muslim too, as his running mate.

It is instructive to note that Nigeria is a nation almost equally divided between Christians and Muslims. Therefore, the decision of the APC to have two Muslims run for the 2 most-powerful seats in the nation, is invariably a move to either ostracize almost 50% of the nation whose faith borders on Christianity, or is simply perceived so, considering that the flagbearer and his running mate are from 2 of the 3 major ethnic groups.

The Prophet's take was greatly applauded on TikTok. Below are screenshot of comments.

Prophet Isa El-Buba's bold support for Peter Obi and Yusuf Datti Baba-Ahmed, as a result of the above stated peculiarities of the nation, is seen as a step to the right direction by Christians on one hand, and unbiased Muslims on the other. While bold statements of support for a candidate like his are scarce from the Christian angle, it is not totally absent. Pastor Abundance Collins Ifeanyi is one of the few not only declaring support but going ahead to create platform of support. He is the Covener of Anchor For Peace And Stability Initiative Support Group For LP OBIDAT 2023.

The decision of the APC to run with 2 Muslims may have garnered much derision, and seen as a recipe for failure by most Nigerians, it is however interesting to remember that the Kaduna State Governor, Nasir Ahmad El-Rufai, a Muslim, tried same in his State and succeeded.

The Governor, just before the 2019 gubernatorial election, dropped his Christian Deputy Governor and settled for a Muslim running mate. It will suffice to state that it worked in Kaduna, and Kaduna State, as alluded by the author of the book, 'The Crook's Honour', available on Amazon, is a microcosm of the entire nation. In the book, it was also alluded that the decision of the governor to pick a fellow Muslim was centred around his decision to show the leaders of his party that religion is inconsequential, and will be so in the 2023 elections.

Ahmed Bola Tinubu may have learnt this from Nasir Ahmad El-Rufai, but 'Nigeria isn't Kaduna State', most would say.
